   android:orientation="vertical"

   android:layout_width="fill_parent"

   android:layout_height="fill_parent">

   <ImageView

      android:id="@+id/imageView"

      android:layout_width="fill_parent"

      android:layout_height="wrap_content"

      android:layout_weight="1"/>

   <Button

      android:id="@+id/buttonLoadPicture"

      android:layout_width="wrap_content"

      android:layout_height="wrap_content"

      android:layout_weight="0"

      android:text="Load Picture"

      android:layout_gravity="center"/>

</LinearLayout>

Step 3 − Add the following code to src/MainActivity.java

public class MainActivity extends Activity {

   ImageView imageView;

   Button button;

   private static final int PICK_IMAGE = 100;

   Uri imageUri;

   @Override

   public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {

      super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

      setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

      imageView = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.imageView);

      button = (Button)findViewById(R.id.buttonLoadPicture);

      button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {

         @Override

         public void onClick(View v) {

            openGallery();

         }

      });

   }

   private void openGallery() {

      Intent gallery = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, MediaStore.Images.Media.INTERNAL_CONTENT_URI);

      startActivityForResult(gallery, PICK_IMAGE);

   }

   @Override

   protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data){

      super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);

      if (resultCode == RESULT_OK && requestCode == PICK_IMAGE){

         imageUri = data.getData();

         imageView.setImageURI(imageUri);

      }

   }

}

Step 4 − Add the following code to androidManifest.xm

   <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/>

   <application

      android:allowBackup="true"

      android:icon="@mipmap/ic_launcher"

      android:label="@string/app_name"
